FAN-FAVORITE FRIDAYS #1

Let’s be clear from the get-go, when I say “Fan-Favorite”, what I actually mean is “My Favorite”

Much like I have already done with my posts about Jack Of Hearts and Firestar, this weekly column will be a chance for me to shine a spotlight on some lesser-known (and when I say lesser-known, I don’t mean some totally obscure character that appeared in one panel of one issue of Creatures On The Loose #20 back in 1972, I just mean characters that are not considered Top Tier and/or A-List) characters that I, personally, have a soft spot for.

So, without further ado, our first featured character, Miss Alison Blaire aka Dazzler.

I’ve taken, and continue to take, a significant amount of shit from my comic book peers for my love of Dazzler, but honestly, I don’t give a fuck. She’s awesome (or should that be FABULOUS?).

Sure, she is basically a gimmick character that was designed to capitalize on a fad that has somehow stuck around, but that shouldn’t be held against her. After all, there are some great fad-capitalizing characters out there (Shang-Chi and Iron Fist, come immediately to mind). Plus, pretty much every character introduced in the 90s could have the same thing thrown at them. So I don’t accept that position at all. Although, yeah, the roller skates were pretty bad.

She is just such a fun character with so much potential. I really like that she seems to have been getting more play in the past five years or so. In fact, right now she is leading her own team (even though it’s an alternate reality version of her, but still).

And come on, if nothing else, you just can’t fuck with those awesome Bill Sienkiewicz covers that her solo series had, some of which I have included above.

I’d also be remiss in my duties as a male comic nerd if I didn’t mention the fact that she makes for some truly awesome cosplay too. Easily one of my favorites to see. But you can Google those images for yourself.

Bottom line, I fucking love Dazzler and I am not ashamed (well, maybe just a little) to admit it.

Actually, it’s 616 Dazzler who’s leading a group of alternate version X-Men! She and Sage are 616 characters.
